My biggest regrets so far…

Screen shot 2013-04-08 at 9.23.38 PMOk, I promise not to be so totally self absorbed in every blog post I put on here, but last night I finished the final episode of a little known CBC gem called “Being Erica” (you can find it now on Netflix, all 4 beautiful seasons). Basically the premise is a tad far-fetched (time travel anyone?) but the gist of the series “If you could go back in time to undo regrets, would you, and how so that you could positively affect your own life today” was really thought provoking. And now – not only do I have a massive girl crush on the actress who plays Erica and might petition the CBC to renew it for another season – I find myself thinking of my own life’s regrets. What would be on your list?

  1. Copping out in 2nd year and continuing with an Arts Degree when I really wanted to go into Sciences (I was soooo lazy)
  2. Using tanning beds as a teenager (and using baby oil – ugh!)
  3. Ditto on the smoking as a teen and young adult
  4. Being a mean girl in elementary school (I totally changed my ways by Jr high school thank god)
  5. Not having the courage to leave certain past relationships sooner because of my fear of being alone
  6. Letting my fear of failure affect my on field performance during critical games during my competitive Ultimate Frisbee years (i’d take myself off the field so as not to be the goat)
  7. Losing touch with certain old friends from high school, university and beyond
  8. Not ever making it to Scotland to hang with our Scottish BFFs
  9. Wasting so much mental energy for so many years on being critical of my body – even as a skinny teen!
  10. Not getting to see my Grandma and a beloved friend’s mom one last time before they passed away

Whenever I get into that space thinking about the choices I “should” have made when I was younger, my thoughts turn to one key fact that makes me realize how lucky I am. To get each of the three wonderful girls that I have, one particular sperm had to inseminate one specific egg. If I had made any different choices in my life at any time, I most likely would not have these particular three girls, each of whom is the most cherished person in my life (yes a three way tie).

Love it, pbc! We can do Scotland sometime soon. Friend’s mom part, well, that just made me cry.
