I was inspired to write this post by my friend Jennifer Powell over at Momdadandcuppakids and her great post “My Life Playlist” Go check it out if you haven’t done so already!
At some point in the near future I am going to blog about all the songs that compile my life’s playlist but for now this is what has been playing on loop for me in the past week or so. And yes, I am already sick of Christmas music, so there isn’t much of it below!
Step (Vampire Weekend) – As much as I joke about my age and getting older, it is a blessing to have had all these years on our fair earth but these lyrics do explain my struggle with aging sometimes.
Wisdom’s a gift, but you’d trade it for youth. Age is an honor, it’s still not the truth
We saw the stars when they hid from the world, You cursed the sun when it stepped to your girl
Maybe she’s gone and I can’t resurrect her, The truth is she doesn’t need me to protect her
We know the true death, the true way of all flesh, Everyone’s dying, but girl you’re not old yet…
Monkey Tree (Mother Mother) – Have you ever just wanted to run, run away from it all? This amazing local band has completely blown my mind this past month. You’ll love “Get Out of The Way” as well. Guaranteed.
Cigarette Daydreams (Cage the Elephant) – I don’t think I have anything too profound to say about this song, except that I really, really like it and I am sure you will too.
Sailor’s Eyes (Joel Plaskett) – This song was recommended by a lovely new friend of mine and will always remind me of him and the bond we forged in a short period of time. Thanks K, here’s to new friendships even if they are long distance..
The Prayer – Just because I turn into a big old sap this time of the year. No matter who or what you pray to each night the message is the same – keep our loved ones safe and healthy. And I dare you to watch this version and NOT cry. Goose bumps I tell you, goose bumps..
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Blue Rodeo) – How can you take my all time favorite Christmas Carol and make it 10000000X better? Have Jim Cuddy sing lead vocals, or better yet have him sing it to me in person!
So there you have it, my holiday playlist. What’s on yours?
