How to get rid of dark eye circles in 4 easy steps

December 1, 2014

Ah Monday morning. Years ago, I could always tell how much (or little) I slept or how good my weekend was by how dark the circles were under my eyes. Now at the ripe old age of ahem 40, the dark circles are permanent. I could sleep for 15 hours straight and those suckers would still be there. Gah.

And why? Well its simple. I am getting older and I am losing fat volume in my face. Everything shows up more – the darkness and the lines – frustrating!

But I am not ready for a Kardashian style intervention quite yet so I have come up with my own battle plan for those pesky dark circles! I have compiled an amazing arsenal of products that are “age-friendly”, easy to use and fast to put on.

Ladies! Make sure you have already washed and toned first!

Step One Origins GinZing Eye Cream – This eye cream packs a one – two punch for moisturizing and adding a good amount of illuminators to help reflect light and make you look more radiant. Gently dab in the under eye area and let set for about 30 seconds.

Step Two Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer – Oooo, it feels like silk gliding on and this primer is amazing for giving a smooth base for your products to glide onto (aka they don’t get stuck in the fine lines). My gorgeous makeup artist friend Taryn also uses this product under all of her makeup so I knew I was onto something good here. Just apply a small amount onto the under eye area and eyelid.

Step Three Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – Now that you brightened and primed, want your concealer and eye shadow to last all day? Well then you need to prime baby prime!  Stay don’t stray also contains sodium hyaluronate to boost hydration and Vitamins C & E known to help fight signs of aging. Woot! Simply apply three small dots under the eye and on eyelid , allow to set and your makeup ain’t going anywhere girls (especially in those fine lines!)

Step Four Lise Watier Age Control Supreme Filler Concealer – Whemph! What a mouthful but it does do the good amazingly well. Here’s the trick. Pick a concealer that is a smidge darker than your natural skin tone and ONLY place the concealer in the darkest part under your eyes which is typically a triangle from your tear duct to nose to about a third of you eye. Blend, blend blend with a good concealer brush.

and for the bonus step!

Step Five MAC Pigment Eye Shadow in Vanilla – Take a small dab on your brush and apply to the inner corners of your eyes and just under the brow bone. Instantly makes you look more awake and adds a subtle glimmer that will catch the light both indoors and out!

So ladies, I am not promising miracles, but just a good bright even base for you to go out and shine!

One of these eyes is not like the other one!

Dark circles are the bane of my existence. They are the only reason I put on makeup most days. It’s amazing what a difference some good coverup can make to hide them! Thanks for showing your before/after!
