Say what you want about being a CEO, or Entrepreneur, or leader of a great nation, at the end of the day, the one job that will continuously bring you to your knees is being a parent.
I know many amazing women who hold high powered, high influence positions with hundreds of staff and multi-million dollar budgets who are regularly reduced to a quivering pile of manipulated mush by the wee ones in their lives.
Parenting is hard.
Parenting is frustrating.
Parenting will bring you your highest highs and lowest lows.
You might even sob in the front seat of your car from time to time.
And let’s face it, we are all totally flying by the seat of our pants 99.99% of the time.
But what is really comforting in the end is that we are NOT alone. And despite the illusion of perfect parents and perfect kids and perfect families that social media shoves down our throats each and every day, I know that it is just that – an illusion. No family is perfect.
So how happy was I to have discovered the show Parenthood on Netflix last month. The Bravermen’s are a crazy, flawed, and totally relatably imperfect family who lean on eachother through the good times and bad. I am only on season two thus far but the show has already taken us through extra-marital affairs, the challenges of being in a long term relationship, Asperger’s syndrome, and the crushing difficulty of parenting teenagers and so much more. And with 5 more seasons to go I know that I am in good company through this crazy roller coaster known as being a parent.
