The Lazy Mom’s Guide to Fabulous Hair

November 5, 2014

Those of you who know me well know many things about me when it comes to hair. For one, I firmly believe that the length of my hair should get longer with each passing year. For two, that I am thankful to have boys because I am a total nightmare when it comes to hair styling. And for three, I am inherently lazy and am not above going 4-5 days between washes.

So what’s a lazy mom to do when she still wants to have great hair?

a) Rock the mombre. Much to my dear friend Kelly’s chagrin (and credit) I can rock a great mombre. I can easily go almost 6 months between color because of the masterful brilliance of my friend. It’s all about the low-lighting and careful color placement my friends. Oh, and toner!

b) Use Dry Shampoo: I can’t say enough about this life changing product. I mean how else could I possibly even think about going 2 days let alone 5 without it? Best for me is straight off the drugstore shelves (Dove) and applies at the roots each night to help the oil get absorbed before morning.

c) Use The Wet Brush: With long fine hair, I swear I would be rocking the biggest head of dreadlocks without this brush. This has saved me and my hair countless hours of de-tangling trauma and premature breakage.

d) Instawave by KISS: Giselle Bundchen beachy waves in minutes flat? Um, yes please! I was thrilled to be given the chance to try out this ah-maze-ing new product from KISS. Seriously though, this has to be the easiest to use curling iron I have ever encountered. I can literally just touch the iron to my hair and it automagically grabs and curls into perfect spirals EVERY TIME! It also has bi-directional control so if you are fussy like me and always want your curls to go away from your face, you can adjust the barrell to spin left or right! Brilliant! And you don’t have to worry about tangles because somehow this magic wand ensures that your curls are perfectly tangle free every time. For more information about the Instawave and to see it in action visit Ulta.com. You can buy your own Instawave at WalMart Canada this month!

And because I am a lazy mom, here are a few of my favorite lazy mom hair hacks for you to enjoy….

a) Ponytail Curl – don’t have even 10 minutes int he morning to curl your locks with the easy to use Instawave? Then cut that time in half or more by putting your hair in a high ponytail on top of your head, dividing the ponytail into 5 or 6 sections and curling each section. Remove ponytail and shake! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

b French Braid Cheat – I am in my 40’s and I still cannot french braid my hair to save my life. But, I did learn a french braid hack several years ago which has become a go-to style for me for keeping hair out of my face or when the locks become a bit greasy. The video below is not of me, but basically shows the same technique where I only grab hair from the front!

c) Toque/Beanie – when all else fails – put a hat on it! Perfect for day 3 and beyond or after a gnarly day on the trails!

Rocking the toque is totally the way to go. I can’t remember the last time I actually heated my hair.
