Mombre: (adj) [mom-bray] hair of two very distinct colors caused unintentionally by lack of time or money to get hair highlighted regularly and/or caused intentionally by very talented hairstylists.
I have to confess I have had a bit of a girl crush on Drew Barrymore for quite some time. And I think she could really take credit for launching the whole “(m)ombre” trend many many moons ago. Whether or not it was the fact she just didn’t have the time or energy to get her roots done after having her first kid thus starting this whole hair trend is up for debate but I think she rocks the “mombre” look well to this day.
As a busy mom myself I love mombre hair. I too, have unintentionally rocked the look for a little while now due to the sole fact that I am too lazy (and cheap) to get my hair done on a regular basis. In fact, I tell my uber fabulous hairdresser (and bestie Kelly Henry) that my mombre is a testament to how well she does color that I can go so so very long in between and look so on-trend while doing so.
Anyways, the other day I went to my yearly (no joke) color appointment armed with that fab pic of Drew and decided it was time to really go for it. Instead of just rocking the “8 month grow-out” we decided to tackle a more intentional icy-blonde mombre style.
And BAM – she hit a home run baby! Please note my bathroom lighting absolutely does not do the blond justice, it’s much more icy than it looks in the crappy selfies below 🙂
So it will take me a little while as always to get used to actually being blonde again (on the lower half of my head at least) but I am loving it so far.
And to all my Lower Mainland mamas – go see Kelly, she rocks all cuts, colors, mombres, color-corrections, kid cuts, man cuts, hipster hair – you name it. And with mama friendly hours and a cozy in home salon she will become your favorite hairstylist as well. I promise!
