There’s been a distinct change in the weather of late even though summer is still not officially over for another few weeks. And with that change in the weather (and the calendar) comes the annual re-introduction of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes (hashtag #PSL) and the ensuing enslaught of just about everything else Pumpkin Spice.
My Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feeds have been full of #PSL this and #PSL that and #OMG when is MY Starbucks bringing PSL’s back? I might be in the absolute minority here but I don’t really give a rat’s a** about #PSL anything. In fact, #PSL anything is kinda sorta really gross. Pumpkin spice Cheerios? Ew! Pumpkin spice baked goods? No thanks!
Maybe I am being a bit harsh but I have never been a big pumpkin fan. And don’t even get my started on anything “spice” as well. Nutmeg, cloves, allspice and I really don’t get along very well and that actually makes avoiding many a fall and winter holiday dessert quite easy for me. Pumpkin pie? No thanks! Chai Latte? Um, no! Mincemeat, plum pudding, mulled wine or Christmas Cake? Gag me with a spoon!
But there is something particularly offensive to me about Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Maybe it’s the combination of many of my least favourite flavour combinations all swirled up in a warm milky froth, or maybe it’s just the hysteria that surrounds it’s re-introduction at this time of the year when it’s still largely icy cold Frappucino weather, or maybe it’s because i’m just not ready to say goodbye to summer yet. So, sorry in advance my friends if I don’t “heart” or “like” those darn #PSL posts that are I know are coming, know you know why. 🙂
