The Lazy Mom’s Guide To Healing Dehydrated Skin

January 7, 2015

This is winter in Vancouver folks. Wet, cold, grey, and did I mention wet? Sigh.

At least my umbrella is bright and cheery!

You would think that at least some of this rain would translate into super dewy well moisturized skin right? Well no! All this rain and cold means that furnaces are on, car heaters are on full blast, wind is blowing and all my skin’s moisture is getting sucked right out along with it. Top that off with my trouble zones and mild rosacea and you got a difficult winter skin equation to solve!

So I headed out to my local Shoppers Drug Mart where they have a plethora of new skin care products looking for some guidance and a COMPLIMENTARY Skin Analysis. When I arrived I met the most lovely and helpful Beauty Expert named Jennifer. And let me tell you, Jennifer was a drop dead gorgeous mama of two teens and a 10 year old and did not look a day over 30 so I knew I was in good hands!

Jennifer began the process asking me a series of questions about what I thought my winter skin problems and concerns were. Always one to be a challenge, I told her my concerns are – hydration, redness/rosacea, sensitive skin, aging skin and milia.

Next she used the beautyRx tool to measure my skin’s hydration levels using the Moisture Checker (bad – surprise surprise) and then examined my skin under the Video Microscope which magnifies your skin’s surface by 30 times. Kind of creepy to see, but a great tool to effectively diagnose your skin type and any signs of sun damage (which I have lots of, again surprise surprise).

I thought I had Jennifer stumped with my combination skin and sensitivities and rosacea but she came up with several lines and products that fit my skin concerns and budget.

The best product to attack all of my problem areas is Clinque’s Smart Custom Repair Serum, which is basically your all in one powerhouse addressing redness, discoloration, anti-aging and hydration issues! This lazy mom loves a good all in one!

Next we moved onto my eyes. Where to even start with my eyes – loss of volume, dark circles, not so fine lines, dehydration etc etc. Jennifer recommended Estée Lauder’s Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Eye Balm. It’s a mouthful to say but this little golden jar does it all – tightens, hydrates, and fights the signs of aging! Woot!

So after all this great advice I did have to ask Jennifer “What if these products make my skin react?” – always a major concern for me when I am investing good money in my skin care regime. Jennifer assured me that I had 30 days to exchange the product for another that would work for my skin or refund my money completely. And, I earn mega Shoppers Optimum Points on participating products to boot!

And the most important piece of wisdom that Jennifer bestowed on me was…. no matter what your winter skin care regiment this winter – you need to exfoliate! Use a great toner and gentle cleanser to get rid of all the dead dry winter skin to allow your skin to absorb product better, look smoother and help prevent breakouts.

I hope these tips inspire you to go see your local Beauty Expert for your beautyRx COMPLIMENTARY Skin Analysis (and earn those amazing Shoppers Optimum points) and get your skin winter ready!
