Our home away from home

May 16, 2013

I love a good hot beachy vacation as much as the next gal, but what I don’t love is the hours of travel and packing, the inevitable bout of vacation illness, the huge VISA bill upon returning, and the inevitable 5 holiday pounds gained.

So last year my hubby and I made the decision to buy a 22ft trailer (and a huge monster truck to pull said trailer) so that we could enjoy more of what our own beautiful province has to offer, and to spend more quality time as a family. And you know what, even though that trailer depreciated a good 10% as soon as we drove it of the lot, it was still the BEST investment we have ever made. Our boys never (well almost never) ask to watch TV or play video games…they play outside from dawn to dusk, build forts and get dirty. We don’t shower, we smell like campfire, we wear mack jackets, we get bug bites and we don’t (generally) check our phones or computers. It is truly disconnecting from the world and re-connecting with what is most important…family.

My kids have spent the past 8 years in a camper trailer all summer long. Some of the best memories as a family. Maybe we can meet somewhere in the middle one summer??

Love it! I’m a ‘happy camper” over here too! We just booked our first few nights away for this summer and we’ll be doing it with 2 under 2. Yikes! Should be interesting…

We did that too! We didn’t have camper, but, a tent trailer if lucky and tents. Those were great times. Now I’m more of a nice hotel kind of girl :).

I basically told the hubs that I would not camp, like ever, if I was not surrounded by metal. More a fear of bears thing than anything else 🙂
