So this week I had the chance to relieve the 90’s at the Pearl Jam concert here in YVR. I was never the biggest PJ fan even back in their heyday, but I have some mad love for Eddie Vedder and hubby is a huge fan so was happy to go along for the ride.
To really get into the spirit I wanted to pull out the old ripped levis and flannel shirt and go old school grunge, but unfortunately I couldn’t even fit an arm into my old pair now and the flannel is all in the camper. Ah well.
So instead, I went new school and pulled on some cord jeggings and an amazing satin backed Bordeaux shirt from Anthropologie with my trusty toque. Completed the look with some clog boots and and we were ready to go!
Anyhoo – It’s kinda hard to believe it’s been 22 years – YES 22 YEARS – since that iconic album was released (as if I wasn’t feeling old enough already). Eddie and the boys were in fine form and actually sounded great despite their advancing age and typically crap stadium acoustics and played a 3+ hour show. Looking around, the crowd was pleasantly “middle aged” – lots of grey hairs peeking through the goatees and crow’s feet crinkling from behind the rock star eye makeup. Loved it!
Unfortunately we had to leave before the end of the concert because a) we were getting headaches from the alcohol/light show/loud music and b) because our babysitters were about to turn into pumpkins. But all in all I think us old timers represented and it was fun to get our rock on for the night. Next up? Blue Rodeo in January – swoon!
