Last night I got together with 3 former World Champs. With our busy lives this doesn’t happen enough as we would like but when it does we are always good for a glass of wine (or 5) some good eats and good laughs.
Since there was four of us AND we were committed to hunkering down at my friends house for the evening (with no one driving) I decided that a BOX of wine was in order. And before you get all judgey-judgey on me, hear me out!
I first spotted the box of Naked Grape Unoaked Pinot Grigio at our local liquor store awhile back. Being frugally minded and a lover of good white wine I figured the cost of the box for over 3L of liquid gold was well worth it! Now I have to admit that the only thing that made me a touch nervous was the “unoaked” in the name. I mean, aren’t Chardonnay’s typically oaky and not Pinot Grigio’s? Yikes!
Anyways, despite my initial apprehension I committed full tilt and was pleasantly surprised. According to someone who actually knows what they are talking about this wine has…
brilliant pale straw colour; delicate aromas of citrus, pineapple and baked apples with mineral nuances; dry and medium-bodied with crisp acidity; flavours of apples, pears, citrus and melon.
And lil old moi, who really knows nothing about wine, did detect a slight oaky undertone despite the name, but maybe I was just tasting nuances of the box it came packaged in? 🙂
