Wine Wednesday – Skinny Grape Pinot Grigio

May 27, 2013

wineI have a confession to make. This past weekend I was at the Everywoman Conference in Whistler (which was amazing and I will post about soon) and on the Saturday night they had a formal 3 course sit down dinner complete with cash bar. I have no problem with cash bars, but I do have a problem with the wine selection that they usually carry at said cash bars (and ok, the prices too). Normally it’s semi-warm Sauvignon Blanc or worse yet, semi-warm Chardonnay (barf!).

So……I had resigned myself to a night of drinking warm SB, and wandered next door to the ATM to get some cash, when lo and behold I found myself outside a cold beer and wine store!

(Cue the music!) HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! Seriously! A full cooler of COLD whites all under 15 bucks a bottle!

Now at this point in the weekend I probably already had eaten and drank waayyyyyyyy more than the calories I had expended during the sessions so I saw a bottle of “Skinny Grape Pinot Grigio” in the cooler which intrigued me as it claimed to only have 80 calories per serving (so if I drink the entire bottle myself thats only 320 cals!). And it was COLD and only 13 bucks! Yay me!

So I non-nonchalantly sauntered back into the ballroom with my paper bag of Skinny Grape and was pleasantly surprised with’s light and fruity for sure…..definitely a little less flavorful than a regular PG, but that seems par for the course for a “light” wine. So my verdict is thumbs up for sure, because who doesn’t love more drinks for fewer calories. Holla!

Are you aware who owns the “Skinny Grape” company? Some big headed anorexic ex-housewife who is constant tabloid fodder. It may be yummy and low cal, but I would rather keep my big fat wine gut than put another penny in her pocket…seriously…she is heinous.

I love that you were at Roland’s. I go there almost nightly for cold vino.

Yuck. I definitely have no love for Bethanny either, even her name irks me. She does make a good wine though – damn!

You’re thinking of “Skinny Girl”…Bethany owns this company.

Skinny “Grape” is an entirely different company…and MUCH better wine to boot! and yes, only 80 calories per 5 oz glass.

You obviously missed this important fact. You saw, fewer calories, only one detail. However, worth noting this “pinot grigio” is 8% alcohol, which if you looked into that detail, you’d be alarmed to find that barely makes it wine. More like a wine/water cocktail. Imagine only calories per glass and all we had to do was mix our wine with water! Its magic!

Oh except you paid full price for wine, shame about that. Please stop promoting this awful product.

Skinny grape is not wine by any standard, just a watered down wine cocktail.

Thanks for your candor James. I agree that it’s not even close to tops on my list, but for some calorie conscious/spritzer loving friends of mine it works quite well….
