Today’s wine was discovered during a delicious meal I recently had at the Keg (Mmmmm….Keg!). It was a rainy and cold evening and I am not much of a steak eater so my Keg culinary experience was a crap-ton of the free sourdough bread, plus French Onion Soup, and a dinner salad with loads of Lobster and Shrimp. Mmm..mmm..good!
The Keg actually has it’s own sh*t mix white house wine called “Knotted Vines” by Innskillin that is blended uniquely for them, and it happened to be on special that particular evening which was tempting. But after a small sample, it just screamed “oaky” to me so it was a no go (darn those Chardonnay grapes!)
I remembered trying the Wild Goose Vineyards Riesling awhile back, not exactly sure when though (perhaps too much was consumed that night?!) so when my eyes scanned over it on the wine list my spidey senses tingled! And they were not wrong!
This lovely Riesling is light and crisp and not too sweet and paired perfectly with my half ton of bread, soup and salad. In fact it was so good the entire bottle was drained by the time dessert rolled around. Normally a whole bottle of Riesling would be much too sweet for this gal, but this one really hit the mark and I will definitely be ordering it again.
